Personal Training
The Process
When you want to let me help with your exercise program, I take several steps to understand your needs and wants before we actually start exercising. (Please note that individual MELT sessions have a simplified process – see there.)
The contract – Nothing in life is without paperwork, and neither is personal training. However, the main part of my contract asks information about your goals, your health history and your exercise history. There are also circumstances when I require the signature of a physician.
- The first meeting – We are not yet exercising. After having reviewed the information and discussed your expectations, I perform a fitness screening.
- Fitness assessment – The cornerstone of this is a musculoskeletal screening which enables me to get a first impression of muscular imbalances. Identifying such imbalances and weak links is of greatest importance because it is the foundation for a safe and effective program design for you. This assessment may include manual muscles testing using the NKT Method and’or the use of a foot scanner to determine stance and weight distribution.
- The first workouts – Now we are finally ready to exercise. The first few sessions are an extension and validation of the assessment. I observe your movements and fine-tune my understanding of your strengths and weaknesses. But even after that, workouts are a constant evaluation tool as a body is not a static entity but has changing demands from day to day.
- After that – Regardless of which modality of training we decide upon, one thing is certain: I will vary your workouts greatly from time to time. Whether you work out with me a few times per week or only once a month, I believe in challenging the body in different ways even while pursuing an agreed-upon goal to create an outcome of optimal functional efficiency for you. My workouts for you draw on a variety of modalities such as MELT, The Biomechanics Method, or strength stabilization training. and are informed by the anatomical view of the body from ‘Anatomy in Motion’ (AiM).
I also use my ‘wonder weapon’ before and after a workout as needed. It is a device from Rapid Release Technology called PRO 2 which vibrates at a very high frequency to breakup scar tissue and adhesions. See more under the specific information (link).
Where and when
COVID 19 studio procedures: all my current clients have been fully vaccinated. I will only accept new clients who are vaccinated.
When we first meet, we will talk about the modality in which you want to use my services as a personal trainer. This can run the spectrum from training several times a week to once a month. It may be ongoing for years or may end after a few sessions when you will have learned a few sequences of exercises.
I prefer to train you at my studio where I have all the equipment necessary for the best possible workout for you. However, I may come to another location of your choosing to help you adapt your exercise program to the equipment available there.
Health Coaching
I hold a certification as a health coach with subspecialties in weight loss and behavior modification. Assistance in those areas is part of my personal training but it can also be a stand-alone service. As such, coaching session can be conducted by phone or through Zoom.
Zoom
I offer personal training sessions through Zoom. MELT/SMART and health coaching sessions may be scheduled without having met in person. Strength training through Zoom is only available after I have met with you in persona
